It's official, the UK's most anticipated wedding cake - the one for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding on 19 May - will be made by Californian-born pastry chef Claire Ptak, owner of east London bakery . "I can’t tell you how delighted I am to be chosen to make Prince Harry and Ms. Markle’s wedding cake. Knowing that they really share the same values as I do about food provenance, sustainability, seasonality and most importantly flavour, makes this the most exciting event to be a part of," Claire says.

Once a stall on Hackney's much-loved , Violet's opened on Wilton Way in 2010. "All of my cakes are baked with organic flour, sugar, milk and eggs. Many of the other ingredients are organic as well, like our Madagascan vanilla pods and pure cane molasses," says Claire.

The royal couple have commissioned Claire to make a "lemon elderflower cake that will incorporate the bright flavours of spring. It will be covered with buttercream and decorated with fresh flowers," Kensington Palace tweeted this morning. "Prince Harry and Ms Markle are looking forward to sharing the cake with guests at their wedding at Windsor Castle," the Palace added, though we suspect there may not be enough to go round all 2,640 members of the public welcomed into the grounds for the day.
