Image 1 and 2 - Regents Park roof terrace: The views over Regents Park and the City of London are sensational. Rather than compete with the vista the long roof terrace has been laid out so you can sit immersed within the planting whilst facing the extraordinary view. Planting and slatted screens have been installed to act as a shelter from the wind, whilst a water feature disguises the hum of the traffic below. Image 3 and 4 - The clients asked for a place to escape the city from in the spirit of the shaded courtyard gardens of Barcelona. Corten steel detailing and timber introduce warmth, countered by the lush greens of temperate plants, whilst the water feature keeps the sounds of the city at bay. An outdoor kitchen and dining area sit within an open Western Red Cedar pergola as a place for relaxation and entertaining. Image 5 and 6 - Highbury courtyards: A courtyard and terrace, with access on different floors. We designed a staircase to link them both, but kept their atmospheres distinct. The shaded courtyard downstairs is a place for contemplation, where gold walls reflects warm light and an enormous Indian Bean tree creating a natural ceiling to frame the view. Upstairs we introduced Rhus trees to give dappled shade, plenty of cushions, flexible seating and an outdoor kitchen.
