Bernard Interior Design was appointed by a private client in 2015 to oversee all interior renovations of a Category A Listed building in the heart of Glasgow’s Park District. The imposing five-storey sandstone townhouse, situated in one of Glasgow’s most sought after areas, majestically overlooks Kelvingrove Park with stunning views across the city. The townhouse had lain derelict for over five years, used as office space throughout the 90’s, and fallen into disrepair. Bernard Interior Design were challenged to create a design, which was contemporary yet sympathetic to the historic and period features which run throughout the building. Bernard Interior Design also worked alongside the developer for three years to win planning permission to convert the building back to a residential dwelling. The client brief was to create a stylish and inviting family home with a luxurious finish and an abundance of “wow factor” detail. Due to the scale and complexity of the building (9700sq ft), Bernard Interior Design began the design process by carefully planning and implementing the restoration of period features including bespoke cornicing, ceiling roses, original fireplaces and a 4.5m high grand entrance hall. The team issued a detailed drawing package at the outset. Monthly meetings were scheduled with the client to ensure continual communication with contractors and swift management of unexpected issues arising, enabling the project to be delivered on-time and on-budget.
