Marion Lichtig

As a designer, Marion Lichtig takes the long view, taking time to choose furnishings and antiques to ensure ‘a sense of organic growth’ and an evolved look. She shops exhaustively for the right statement piece, often an antique. Fond of vintage linens and natural stone and timber, Marion likes to create a balance between contemporary and classic. ‘Spaces should look effortlessly put together,’ she says.

Marion has more than 30 years’ experience in the business. She studied fashion at Central Saint Martins and she was subsequently drawn to antiques, then interior design. She has kept her north-London design practice small – her daughter Olivia joined in 2008 – so that she can develop fulfilling client relationships. Many commissions are by repeat clients.

Marion’s current and recent projects include: furnishing a large Edwardian family house in Putney; a house in Cornwall built from scratch over four years; a house for a young family in Queen’s Park; and a flat in Chelsea.

Most inspiring place?

‘The Georgian town houses in Spitalfields, east London, inhabited by the Huguenots in the eighteenth century. I love the architecture and the beautiful panelling in the rooms.’
