Melissa Wyndham

Her interiors are elegant, classical and light, yet Melissa Wyndham’s designs are also shaped by her practicality and a desire to create timeless spaces. ‘I am driven by comfort and good lighting,’ she says. Melissa has forged her reputation decorating countless grand English country houses, but she also enjoys the modern. Clients may be surprised by something unexpected, such as a piece of contemporary art or a swish of uplifting colour.

Melissa set up her practice in 1986, and her faithful clients come back time and again for her decades of design experience. She has a team of four at her Sydney Street, SW3, offices. Melissa continues to design rugs for Robert Stephenson, as well creating bespoke furniture, fabrics and carpets for clients.

In a busy year, 2014 saw Melissa working on a series of grand town houses for a high-end property firm in central London. She is now reconfiguring a West Country manor house for family living, and has finished the careful renovation of a Home Counties rectory that had burnt down.

‘I once based one of my rug patterns on the design of a railway station platform in the West Country.’
